Organisations such as the Island Book Trust and the Stornoway Historical Society deliver talks and outings. While the Gaelic culture of the island is promoted through events such as the local Mod’s and Feis.
Sport plays a significant part in island life and this is reflected in the annual half marathon and 10k Road Races that are run every year on several of our islands. Highland Games are held annually in several districts and the Sail Hebrides event is delivered in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis.
Not to leave out the cyclists and kayakers there is a Hebridean Challenge where contestants attempt to paddle, run and cycle their way north from the Isle of Barra to the Butt of Lewis.
During the year a number of craft and produce fairs are held at various locations throughout the islands and here you can purchase everything from hand-knitted clothing to home grown fruit and vegetables.
